President Biden Signs Maloy Bill to Transfer Parcels of Federal Land to Local Control

Recently, President Joe Biden signed the Utah State Parks Adjustment Act into law. The bill, introduced by Congresswoman Celeste Maloy (UT-02) and Senator Mike Lee (R-UT), would transfer the titles for several parcels of federally owned land in and around three Utah State Parks to the State of Utah, consolidating ownership and improving land management.

“This is a victory for common-sense land management policy. These small land parcels interspersed throughout Utah State Parks will now have one landlord instead of two. I have the utmost confidence that the state will take good care of them for Utahns, Americans, and visitors from around the world to enjoy,” said Congresswoman Maloy.

“This legislation is another important step in streamlining land management and enhancing public access to popular Utah parks. Day by day, bill by bill, we are giving the people of Utah more control over their own backyards and empowering those who best know how to care for these beautiful lands,” said Senator Lee.

“We are grateful for the hard work both Representative Maloy and Senator Lee have put into pursuing these changes,” Utah State Parks Director Scott Strong said. “This will allow us to continue responsibly managing these areas for the benefit of both the park and all of our visitors.”

This bill would:

  • Convey three parcels of land from the Bureau of Land Management and the United States Forest Service to the State of Utah for inclusion in Antelope Island State Park, Wasatch Mountain State Park, and Fremont Indian State Park.
  • These parcels are all in holdings or located directly adjacent to Utah State Park boundaries.
