From hockey championships to federal land policy, this week had no shortage of action, so make sure to scroll through our newsletter to get the details. To start, Sevier County Sheriff Nathan Curtis joined me to discuss how to better support rural EMS providers. Watch my video to learn more.

President Trump addressed a joint session of Congress this week, and there was plenty worth noting. The evening's highlights included recognizing the heroes who serve this country, laying out a vision for lowering costs for American families through the Big Beautiful Bill, and celebrating the U.S. Men's Hockey team's victory. That last moment deservedly got one of the louder responses of the night.

Shivwits Band of Paiutes Jurisdictional Clarity Act
|
Some constituents have reached out with questions about the Shivwits Band of Paiutes Jurisdictional Clarity Act, so I want to be clear about what the bill does and doesn't do. Federal law currently caps leases on Shivwits Band land at 25 years, a restriction rooted in an era of federal paternalism that treated tribes as incapable of making their own decisions.
The Shivwits Band of Paiutes Jurisdictional Clarity Act, which I introduced at the request of Band leadership, fixes that. The bill allows the Band to enter leases of up to 99 years and gives them the option to use state or federal courts for commercial contract disputes if they choose. It does not greenlight any particular project or development. It simply levels the playing field and restores to the Shivwits Band the economic tools they should have had all along.

Shivwits Band of Paiutes FY 2026 BUILD Grant Program - Letter of Support
|
The Shivwits Band of Paiutes has a clear vision for their community's future, and they need the tools to get there. I signed onto a letter of support for their FY 2026 BUILD Grant application through the U.S. Department of Transportation, which would fund critical pre-construction and transportation planning work, strengthen project readiness, and better position the Band to compete for additional federal transportation funding in the years ahead.

Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument
|
In the coming days, I plan to introduce a Congressional Review Act resolution rejecting the Biden administration's 2025 Grand Staircase-Escalante Resource Management Plan. The resolution would return management to the 2020 RMP, a plan built with genuine local input that had broad support from local government. The 2025 Biden RMP had neither. No land would lose federal protection. What would be restored is road access and traditional multiple-use activities like hunting and grazing that local communities depend on. The communities around Grand Staircase-Escalante have seen firsthand what happens when Washington makes major land decisions without them, and this resolution is about pushing back on that.

This week marks National FFA Week, and there's plenty worth celebrating. I co-sponsored H.Res 1073, introduced by Rep. Tracey Mann (KS-1), in recognition of the week and the organization behind it. The resolution: - Recognizes FFA for developing the next generation of globally conscious leaders
- Celebrates the 50th anniversary of Alaska's State FFA Association, now home to 19 chapters and 493 members
- Highlights FFA's mission to build leadership, personal growth, and career-readiness in agriculture and related fields
- Acknowledges FFA's reach across more than 1 million members and 13,000 advisors nationwide

Religious freedom is a fundamental human right, and the United States should never be silent when it is under attack. I co-sponsored H.Res 866, introduced by Rep. Riley Moore (WV-2), which condemns the ongoing persecution of Christians in Nigeria. The resolution: - Condemns attacks on Christian communities and clergy by Boko Haram, ISWAP, and Fulani militant groups
- Highlights the Nigerian government's failure to protect its Christian population
- Calls on the U.S. to use diplomatic, economic, and security tools to end impunity for perpetrators, protect Christian communities, return displaced persons to their homes, and repeal blasphemy laws
- Encourages international coordination to deliver humanitarian aid directly to victims
- Affirms U.S. solidarity with Christians worldwide and the defense of religious freedom

Subcommittee on Water, Wildlife, and Fisheries - Oversight Hearing
|
Keeping the lights on and costs down requires federal policies that work with utilities, not against them. At a Subcommittee on Water, Wildlife, and Fisheries oversight hearing this week, I joined colleagues in examining how bureaucratic delays and inconsistent federal policies are straining utilities, raising costs for ratepayers, and putting grid reliability at risk. The discussion also touched on wildfire mitigation challenges and the need for permitting reforms like the Fix Our Forests Act.

American competitiveness in aerospace and defense depends on continued investment in advanced manufacturing. I met with Hexcel leadership in Washington to discuss innovation in composite materials and hear updates on their ongoing industry initiatives, and came away with a clearer picture of what's needed to keep the U.S. at the forefront.

I met with leadership from Aquatech, a global leader in advanced water and process solutions, to discuss their work in water reuse, desalination, and critical minerals development, including lithium processing projects here in Utah.

Salt Lake County Mayor Jenny Wilson

Strong coordination between federal and local leaders makes for better policy. I sat down with Salt Lake County Mayor Jenny Wilson this week to discuss appropriations priorities and make sure federal decisions reflect the needs of Utah communities.
